  •  To maximise safety and at the same time to maintain or improve the patient’s clinical status during retrieval (College of Intensive Care Medicine, CICM 2015). [/accordion] [accordion title=”Why does ICU patient transport require special training?” id=”acc-2″]
  • Critically ill patients have life-threatening injuries or illnesses that are associated with reduced or exhausted physiological reserves.
  • Transporting such patients exposes them to additional risks and requires the services of highly trained and skilled practitioners. (CICM 2015).[/accordion] [/az_accordion_section]

This learning package aims to take ICU trainees through the theory of intra-hospital transport – including consequences of transport on the patient, risk of adverse events and a structured approach to patient transport using the ACCEPT approach (Assess, Control, Communicate, Evaluate, Prepare and Package, Transport), complementing practical transport and feedback sessions.

The package has combined the CICM IC-10 minimum standards for patient transport, CICM curriculum and the Royal North Shore transport guidelines for ICU.
